Dealing with obstacles in your path?

Updated: Aug 15

Dealing with obstacles in your path:

Have you stumbled upon road blocks on your way to becoming healthy and fit? Have you tried to go around that boulder in your path? Have you dodged that hail storm over your head? If you have and you aren't getting any further down your path, then maybe it's time to take a different route.

What are the obstacles you are facing? Is it your family? Is it a constant enabler? Is it your job? Is it your past? Is it your present situation? Is it your future you are worried about?

We have all come across those stumbling blocks at some point in our lives.

We can choose to stay on that blocked path, or we can choose to stray. The choice is up to us.

If it is a family member that is enabling your unhealthy habits, sit down and have a heart to heart conversation with them. Chances are they are unaware of how they are affecting you. They want to see the good changes in you, but may not know how to help you. If they are aware, and it is all they know how to comfort you, then time to find a new balance and figure out what new comforts you need from them.

Make a list of what makes you happy. Instead of going to food to be comforted, think of other ways you can achieve that comfort zone with out turning to food. Going for a walk, reading a book, playing a game, taking a bubble bath, going for a mani and pedi. Anything to change and lift your spirits other than food.

Find out what your triggers are. Do you emotionally eat, do you socially eat, do you stress eat?

Make a list every time you have a trigger, and eventually you will become more aware of your feelings and how you react to them. You will begin to make better choices. And the people around you will too.

If your job is a stumbling block, do you have the option to look for another one? If not, how can you make positive changes to move those rocks? Have conversations at work, find some balance, apply for a different position, anything you can do to ease your stride that will benefit both you and your boss.

Is it your past that is holding you back from heading in the right direction? It is time to forgive and forget and move on. Holding yourself back from the future because you can't let go of the past will just keep you moving in circles. You will keep going down the same path over and over again, and it will just get worn down again and again. Until you let go, you can't move forward. You can't change the past no matter how much you want to. It's gone, so let it be in the past and live in the present. You can't predict the future, but you can have a future to look forward too if you just move on from your past.

If it is your present situation that is blocking your clear sight of everything and everyone around you, then it is time to clean it up! Those that continue to hold you back from becoming the "best" you, are not needed in your life. Take an inventory of your present situation and start sweeping away all the dirt from your road. You can have a smooth ride if you accept what you can change, make peace with what you can't and believe in your own strength that you got this.

Your future story is not yet told. No one can predict their future. The variables down your path can be great or they can be tragic. We can't live each day worrying about the next. Each day is a gift, a present, a new opportunity to try other routes not traveled. It should be full of wonder and joy and guidance and happiness. What you choose to do with your future begins today.

Cleaning up your path will give you that vision you need to move forward. Move that boulder out of your way and take a different path. Take the road less traveled.

Isn't today the day you start living for you?
